There are many components to video surveillance systems: cameras, monitors, recorders, and cabling to connect the system. A very rough rule of thumb to use for pricing a complete, installed system is $500 to $1,000 per camera, plus the cost of your recording device. Cameras Basic CCTV cameras: $150 to $250 for brand name cameras
Hidden cameras: $200 to $400
PTZ cameras: $1,500 to $5,000 for one camera and controller
Lenses Fixed focal length lenses: $100 to $300
Automatic zoom lenses: $800 to $2,000
Recording devices DVRs: start at $800 to $1,500 – more expensive the more memory and inputs you add
Time-lapse VCRs: start at $300 to $400 – up to $600
Peripherals Housings: $25 to $200, depending on degree of protection
CRT Monitors: $150 to $500; flat panels range from $300 to $5,000
